Gooey, chewy, and loaded with fluffy melted marshmallows! These delicious strawberry rice krispie treats will be a hit with adults and children alike!
Perfecting the Rice Krispie Treat
I have very strong opinions about what makes the perfect rice krispie treat. First, it has to taste “homemade”. None of the subtle hint of “processed” you taste when you pull one out of that blue aluminum package. Second, they have to have the PERFECT ratio of krispies to marshmallows. THAT is what yields the perfect gooey factor and what I have achieved with the recipe I share below!
Something I love about Rice Krispie Treats is their flexibility! They are a simple, fun dessert to make with and for children. And because of this, they lend themselves to variety and adaptability! I like to make them with Fruity Pebbles for Saint Patricks Day (and/or add a little green dye to the marshmallows)!
Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats
That being said, my FAVORITE variety of rice krispie treats I make for my family happens to be perfect for the upcoming holiday of love! Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats have all the perfection of texture with a fresh and delicious strawberry flavor to set them over the edge! My kids love them, they are adorable to look at, and my husband and I can’t get enough of them either!
Not to mention, they are easy enough to make with a toddler! I actually consider it a fun activity for us to do together. My 3-year-old son made them almost entirely from start to finish (with my direction of course).
What you Need to Make Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats
(Detailed recipe below). Just a few simple ingredients (ones you may even already have on hand) make up this tasty treat! Here’s what you need to make the strawberry rice krispie treats:
- Rice Krispies (or any crispy rice cereal)
- Mini marshmallows
- Butter (salted preferred)
- Strawberry Jello Mix Packet
That’s all! 4 ingredients and 5 minutes is all you need!
How to make Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats
- In a large pot on the stove, melt the marshmallows and butter over medium heat until mostly smooth and melted!
- Add 1/2 the jello mix packet and stir to combine with the melted marshmallows.
- Add rice krispies along with 1 additional cup mini marshmallows. Fold together with a large spoon or rubber spatula.
- Spread into a wax-paper lined 9×9″ pan (8×8″ or larger pan will also work – this will only affect the thickness of the bars! I find 9X9 to yield optimal thickness!)
- Let set for at least an hour or two before slicing! Since these are extra gooey, you’ll want to make sure they are completely cooled to have success slicing them into bars! I typically wait several hours before cutting.
Ways to Adapt this Recipe
There are a few ways I like to adapt this recipe throughout the year! Here are a few fun ways you can change it up seasonally!
- Use Fruity Pebbles for Rainbow Krispie Treats
- Use food coloring to change up the color for the holidays! Green for Saint Patrick’s Day, Red/Blue for 4th of July, Orange for Halloween, etc! Simple add food coloring to the melted marshmallows before adding the rice krispies!
- Stir in some fun candies! Candy hearts for valentines, m&m’s, Nerds… whatever your kiddos love they will love even more finding them peeking through the rice krispies! Just be sure that you add them right before you pour to avoid compromising the candies!
- Use any variety of Jello Mix to change up the flavor for your preference! For example, use 1/4 packet strawberry and 1/4 packet lemon to make strawberry lemondae flavor! I like to go this route in the summer!
- Top with drizzled icing, chocolate ganache, buttercream frosting, sprinkles… anything you fancy! You can dress up these rice krispie treats just like you would a cake for added fun!
- Omit all bells and whistles and just keep them plain – sometimes this is exactly how I like them!

Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats
Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
- 9 C Mini marshmallows
- 5 C Rice Krispies
- 1/4 C Butter (salted or add a dash of salt)
- 1/2 packet Strawberry Jello Mix
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt butter and just 8 C marshmallows on the stove over medium heat (make sure you reserve 1 C of the marshmallows for later!). Stir frequently while it melts to melt evenly. While this melts, line a 9×9 pan with wax paper (can also use a smaller or larger pan, I just prefer the thickness of a 9×9!)
- Once marshmallows are almost entirely melted and smooth, turn off heat and stir in 1/2 packet jello mix and stir to combine!
- Fold in rice krispies and the remaining 1 C marshmallows until incorporated! Once combined, immediately spread into your prepared pan.
- Allow to cool/set for at least an hour, preferably more before cutting! I typically allow mine to set for a few hours for an easier, clean cut!
