There is something special about a physical photo. You know, the kind you can hang up in your foyer. These are the photos we stash in our wallets and hold on to when we’re far away. These are the photos we’ll cling to when we are missing each other and our phones are dead. I am reminded of this truth as I walk past the 8 x 10 prints of our little family smiling and laughing in a sun kissed field, and have Amanda Compton to thank for reiterating their value.
I walk in to Amanda Compton’s Photography studio and am greeted with evidence of genuine passion for her craft. The walls are adorned with photographs of happy clients and her own smiling children. In a cozy corner is a space made just for kids to play and imagine while mom and dad relax and prepare. There are racks of clothes for mom and little to choose from, a hair and makeup station (service provided by the beautiful and talented Tabitha @happydazebeauty ) and comfortable space to put your feet up. It is both a one-stop-shop and a retreat – the kind of place I was eager to arrive early and enjoy.
That’s exactly what she wanted us to feel – relaxed. So much so, in fact, that she sent a candle and face mask to our home prior to our session. For Amanda it really is a labor of love. I cannot say enough great things about her personality, talent, and hospitality, so I’ll go ahead and let her photographs do the talking! Below are the photos from our session and we couldn’t be happier with them! Amanda mentioned it multiple times – her affinity for physical photos. She shared how excited her daughter would get when she walked past their family portraits, how she would be eager to point to and name her loved ones. I realized in that moment that I hadn’t printed any photos since before Christmas. And that’s a shame, because it isn’t the photos on our feeds that will make their way into the hands of our grandchildren. The ones that will last are the ones we took the time to print and preserve. We take thousands of pictures a month, tens of thousands a year, but generations from now we will pass on only a few to represent our lives and the people in it. So in the happy and fleeting seasons of your life, capture a few beautiful moments, print them off, and hang them up – you’ll be glad you did!
Thank you, Amanda, for these beautiful memories!
